2009 | Rainbow is a pleasant and busy little town of about 600 people, fully dependant on agriculture. It is situated on the edge of the Mallee National Parks in far western Victoria.

1924 Feb 10 Extract of letter from Melbourne "I enclose O.S.A. No. 19/24, appointing you to the Manager of the Rainbow branch to which you will proceed immediately you have handed over to Mr Forrester" (at Cowangie branch).

2009 July David Jobson took this one at the small Mallee town of Rainbow. It wasn't hard to spot in the main street. I confirmed it with a local retired gentleman, John Pascos, whose family business (still operating) used to bank there. I also had a chat to the local NAB girls, the two of them run the NAB opposite, and the 'manager' also knew it was an old CBC. 2012 | Rushworth is an old goldmining town which retains much of its original character through its many early buildings. It is located 166 km north of Melbourne via Murchison and 145 m above sea-level. Today there are about 1000 residents.
High St, continuing northwards. On the right-hand side is the town's oldest building; a private residence which started its life in 1854 as the Imperial Hotel. Just past it are the first CBC Bank, the second CBC Bank (1883) and Cracknell's Bakery - all now private residences. On the other side of the road is the Criterion Hotel (1856). The first school was established on its south side in 1858.
1865 On 3rd April Bank of Victoria took over business and premises of Oriental Bank. Building was occupied by Bank of Victoria and CBC for the next 94 years (from Current Accounts July 1965)
1883 construction of this building commenced, to replace the original wooden structure built in 1866 when Thomas Benbow was the Manager (see plaque bedlow).
